TRAINING MODULES
At Western Combatives, all modules, including our self defence course, can be completed as personal group or individual training. These modules will be run at various times throughout the year.
Grading System:
Grade 1: Pad Holding
You will learn the correct method to hold pads applicable to Combative Pad Drills and Combat Sports. You cannot progress in our classes without the ability to hold pads. Holding pads is an important job & can make or break the quality of the session your training partner receives!
Grade 2: Self Defence Strategies & Tactics
You will experience the empty handed guantlet where your verbal de-escalation skills will be put to the test as well as your space management, positioning, using the environment to your advantage & basic physical skills.
Grade 3: Combative Boxing
You will learn basic dirty boxing skills and how to apply them in a self defence context. Everything from footwork, striking & head movement
Grade 4: Combative Kickboxing
In addition to the boxing skills from Grade 3 we will add kicking, kneeing & Elbows to the mix again with the same objective of being able to utilise it under pressure
Grade 5: Combative Striking
Learn the C2 striking system created by Mick Coup. Efficient, Economical & Effective!
Grade 6: Close Quarter Combat
Assaults take place in close proximity. You quite often don't have the distance required to utilise your full arsenal. This Module teaches you how to be effective in the clinch. We cover the shredder, combative takedowns and sweeps, wrestling for self defence and more!
Grade 7: Combative Ground
Our preference is not to be on the ground however this is sometimes unavoidable. Our best means is the 'sprawl & brawl' with an emphasis on scrambling, posting, establishing control & getting back to our feet as quickly as possible. We also cover breaking submissions and recovering from bad positions utilising any means necessary!
Grade 8: Weapon Threats
This Module deals with the various threats one may encounter in a self defence situation. Everything from edged to blunt weapons as well as firearm disarms etc.
Grade 9: Multiple Attackers
Fighting one person is tough enough, learn the best strategies to be able to deal with more than one assailant.
Grade 10: Dynamic Knife
One of the most difficult scenarios in a self defence situation is a person with a blade intent on harming you. Study what we in collaboration with many of the worlds leading authorities have formulated to best deal with possibly the most terrifying aspect of self defence.
Grade 11: Third Party Protection
This module deals with being responsible for the safety of another person. It deals with strategies to help protect others & come to their aid.
Grade 12: Scenario
The final test in our syllabus to be one of the few on the honour wall at the gym. Be tested on anything and everything over an arduous physical and mental test designed to test your mental fortitude as well as skillset. Not for the faint hearted which is why in over 12 years we have only had 10 people achieve this.
